Trudi Cowan

Children: 2

Industry: Accountant

How would you best describe yourself?

I am a mum of two girls and an accountant. I am pretty relaxed and easy going and enjoy working with businesses owners to get the most out of their finances.

How has becoming a parent changed your perception of work and career and what surprised you the most?

Having kids broadened my horizon on how my career could look. It doesn’t have to be about climbing the corporate ladder, you can make work fit you life rather than the other way around.

What advice would you give your younger self about starting a family?

You’re jumping into a job that you have no training in. Take it easy on yourself, you don’t need to have all the answers.

What has been your biggest challenge in motherhood to date? How have you overcome this?

Right now! Managing the juggle of work, home schooling and kids that want constant entertainment. It’s a team effort between my husband and I to keep everyone happy.

What are your strategies to manage the juggle of career and family?

Teamwork. I work flexible hours from home and my husband has incorporated some flexibility into his hours too. We share the load at home so we can focus on work at work and the kids when we are home. Our team also includes a cleaner to keep the house in order! I am also very lucky to have my parents close by who love to spend time with the girls.

What do you do for self-care?

Catch up with friends, reading and walks on my own
